Planting
First thing that needs to be done is planting your trees or shrubs. A common question is when is the best time to plant them. Truth is, if the soil is not frozen, go ahead. The most ideal time to begin planting is typically around spring or fall when the weather conditions are relatively mild. You do not want to attempt to plant something right as winter is around the corner because depending on where you are the cold/snow can really deprive that plant of getting the necessary nutrients it needs to grow. So once you have your tree/shrub planted the next step is to make sure it is healthy soaked with water. It is important that you create that initial soaking in when you first plant it so that the soil around it can properly settle around the roots.
Mulching
There are many benefits that come from landscape mulching. Aside from giving great curbside appeal, it plays a big role in making sure the soil stays moisturized and can even help decrease the number of weeds that may sprout up by suppressing them. When applying mulch, a rule of thumb is that it should not be more than 3 inches deep, and should be switched out about once a year( maybe more depending on the weather conditions). And just needs to be placed around the root of the tree/shrub.
Fertilizing
Just like how living things need food, plants are no different. In order for them to grow and thrive, they need to be getting specific nutrients regularly. The fertilizer will help provide them the necessary nutrients allowing them to optimize their growth.
Protecting
Aside from watering your trees/shrubs and fertilizing sometimes, they will need a little more help and protection. Whether it is from insects and pests you want to make sure that you pay close attention to them and notice if there are any threats posed to them.
