What are the different types of insect control?

Biological Control

At first the idea of this may seem a little out there. However, this method can go back pretty far when it first came to people discovering successful ways of dealing with infestations. This method consists of controlling insects by using other insects. This whole approach relies on the system of insect predation and parasitism. For example, predators in the insect family, such as ladybugs, will consume a large number of other insects throughout their life. So if you were to add ladybugs to your garden or farm they help control other insects such as aphids. Ladybugs also even will consume small insects, mites, and caterpillars. And dragonflies are big predators to mosquitoes.

Chemical control

The chemical control method consists of using insecticides. Also commonly referred to as pesticides, insecticides are among the most common things used to help fight insect overpopulation. These are chemicals that are used to kill insects. When deciding if using an insecticide is the right option for your situation, there are a couple of questions you should consider.

Physical Control

This strategy consists of all the different ways that physically keep the insects from reaching a “host”. These barriers can be anywhere from window screens, floating row covers, netting, and etc. All serve as an “entrapment” for whatever you are growing to keep the insects out. There are even cases where people choose to use some sort of chemical trap where they lure the insect into a contained area.
